Our Community Green Group started the Boston Big Bike Fix in January 2021 as a hub of the original project started last June in South Leeds. The idea is to recycle bikes, fix them up and donate them to children and adults who could not afford to buy one.
10 April 2021 was a landmark as we passed the 100 mark of bikes kindly donated by local residents. We have an amazing group of ‘fixers’ who are cleaning, servicing and repairing bikes every week as volunteers. We have so far donated 58 bikes, mostly to inner city areas such as Gipton, Harehills, Cross Green, Seacroft and South Leeds, but also a few to the community here. We would like to say a big Thank You! to all those who have donated bikes to the scheme; all the amazing ‘fixers’; the couple in Boston Spa who very kindly let us use their garage for storage; Michael Simpson, the Community Worker in Gipton who picks up and delivers bikes every week; Ed Carlisle who started it all last June and has driven a van up to take two loads of bikes to South Leeds; and to the members of the Community Green Group who make this all happen!
We are looking to set up another hub in Wetherby, so if you know of any garage or lock-up in Wetherby that we could use for this fantastic project, please do get in touch. Alternatively, if you would like to get involved in the project and join our friendly team of ‘fixers’, you would be very much appreciated.
