Volunteering with Woodland Creation Team

Leeds City Council's Woodland Creation Team's dedicated Rangers are hard at work ensuring the upkeep of Leeds’ cherished woodlands and green spaces, and are collecting potential tasks that might have gone under the radar. Below is a list of tasks they're currently looking to add to their work schedule:

  • Litter collection
  • Maintenance of pathways and steps
  • Removal of invasive species like rhododendron and Himalayan balsam
  • Painting and refurbishing benches and fences, and addressing graffiti
  • Horticultural activities
  • Removal of tree guards and fences
  • Construction of natural fencing through dead hedging
  • Removing young saplings
  • Drainage improvements and ditch work
  • Meadow scything

If any of these tasks align with your interests or if you've noticed similar needs within the parks or green spaces you frequent, they'd greatly appreciate your assistance.

Should you have any ideas or wish to express your interest in volunteering, please don't hesitate to contact CountrysideRangers@Leeds.gov.uk

Do you like fixing bikes?  If so, join our team of voluntary fixers.

Drop off / collection days and times are most Saturdays between 9.30am and 10.30am.

We also have bikes for sale if you're interested.

And we're looking for a co-ordinator/fixer who could run the Big Bike Fix to help this successful scheme going.

Eco Craft Group

We are a small friendly craft group. We all love different sorts of crafts and love to share our skills with each other. We are trying to discover environmentally friendly ways of working to produce craft items using eco friendly and repurposed materials.

Meeting on the last Saturday of each month in the Meeting Room at Wetherby Methodist Church whilst the Coffee Morning is running in the main hall (10am – 12pm), so have easy access to coffee, tea, bacon sandwiches and cake! A small charge will be payable to cover costs around £2.00, unless stated.

For further information, please contact Helen Herbert (hmherbacious4@gmail.com, mob 07795 070101), Sandra Ellen (SRmesh@aol.com) or Mary Bentham (mary.bentham@hotmail.com).

Hi I have been querying Caroline Green for volunteer work and she mentioned in an email that she spoke to someone from your team about me egar to help out with green projects , tree planting – recycling- and general environmental project really. I am fit and healthy and willing to get stuck into some hard work implanting and changes that required. I am free to volunteer some evenings and weekends. Let me know how I go about joining the main group. Thanks, Andy Roberts.

Hi Andrew, we do have a tree planting project for an avenue of rowans and two orchards at Deepdale in Boston Spa. It looks like it’s finally going ahead next week and I’ll email separately with details. Regards. Mike Gadd

I picked up a leaflet your group produced ‘Save Energy Save Money Save the Planet’ and would like to copy it to circulate around Beverley Minster. I’d be very grateful for permission to do so.
