This Earth Day, Friday 22nd April. Can you leave your car at home?

Earth Day 2022

As individuals, we have the simple yet effective power to make our voices heard through our choices, our civic actions, and our personal interactions. What each of us does, and how we do it, has a huge ripple effect on our ecosystems, and on the pace of corporate and government action.

Started in 1970, Earth Day is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world, marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes.

On the back of Zero Carbon Harrogate's 'car free Fridays' initiative launched last October, could we also engage our local community and businesses to leave their cars at home on Friday 22nd April, and use alternative modes of transport eg, bike, walk, bus (and people with a need to use a car, could think about turning their thermostat down a degree that day instead for example).

Cars are one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions as well as air pollution and congestion. We'd hope that by encouraging people to leave their cars at home on Friday 22nd April that it would help to reduce emissions, continue to raise awareness of the climate crisis we face and help to improve the quality of life for residents.

Please leave your car at home and do something positive to address climate change. Share your pledge ahead of the day with friends, family, colleagues and socially too.

If you are a local business why not get your employees involved as well? Encourage them to leave their cars at home that Friday, and walk, cycle, car share or take public transport instead, even for just part of the journey.

This Earth Day, Friday 22nd April. Can you leave your car at home?;
