Check what can go in your brown bin

This may seem obvious (eg. garden waste = plants), but there are some items we’d like people to leave out of their brown bins (eg. sneaky “compostable” plastic can’t be composted by Leeds City Council at the moment). More info on Leeds City Council’s website for all you keen beans.

Get composting!

We can get you a cheeky discount on compost bins through our partner, Get Composting, then you can compost food waste and compostables! More info on composting on our website

Brown bin collections are suspended until further notice. Do not put garden waste in your black or green bin. We will not collect any bins with garden waste in them.

Other options for garden waste

  • Compost garden waste at home
  • Pile garden waste up at the edge of your garden (this is good for wildlife too)
  • Leave grass cuttings on the lawn and do less pruning
  • Check out Zero Waste Leeds for advice

Household Waste Recycling Centres Closed

Following the instruction to close all non-essential businesses, we have closed our household waste recycling centres. Please store bulky items (large items like wood, metal or furniture) and electricals at home until further notice. Do not try to dispose of these items in your household bins. Please do not leave waste outside the Recycling Centres or anywhere else as this is classed as fly tipping and is a criminal offence for which people will be prosecuted.
