During the quietness of lockdown, we realised we had a family of starlings nesting in our gutter and roofline. We would like more starlings to make a home in our garden, so we decided to make some bird boxes. With the wonderful help of our Scout leader friend and all of his tools, Thomas made two bird boxes – using a drill and saw for the first time. His creations, one large enough for starlings, and the other (with a hole cover added) the perfect size for blue tits who regularly visit our bird feeders.
The bird boxes were fitted to our house wall this week, and as our home is shared with some bats (we believe them to be pipistrelles) we’ve also added a bat box.
We are excitedly hoping that birds and bats find these new boxes to call their home.
